Localizers, Steffen, I'll attach a patch in a minute that works on the problem of composed sentences differently.

I would like localizers to look at the patch and raise their opinion.

mconnor, does something like this look like a feasible coding style to you?

This is an alternative approach to bug 346180 and bug 328563, though it's probably generally applicable, or not at all.

This is a branch patch, but that doesn't really mean that it's intended to land there. That could depend on the feedback, though.
This lacks localization note comments, too, this is more a technical review stage for this approach. It does work, of course.
