It might be worth to switch Amazon and eBay over to the co.uk plugins for Hungarian users. Though amazon.co.uk only offers international shipping for Hungary. There's no local Yahoo for Hungary, so the en-US version seems fine to me. Did we discuss the addition of hu.wikipedia.org before? Seems to be in the 10k+ articles category, might be worth looking into, to have a second Hungarian engine. Andras, Mic, comments?
Summary: hu-HU Search Feature Tracking for Firefox 2 → hu Search Feature Tracking for Firefox 2
i'm ok to add hu.wikipedia.org particularly if it's a better experience than the english plug ins, maybe rank it higher on the list as its local. Andras, what do you think would be a better Hungarian experience? best mic
It is hard to tell for me what relevant is for an average Hungarian Firefox user. I do not use anything else but Google. :) Inclusion of hu.wikipedia.org may be a good idea. It is safe choice, because it is non-profit site. I do not know however how the search plugins were selected for the en-US version. I mean I do not know, if Mozilla Corp. is affiliated with eBay, Amazon etc. For example there are online bookstores in Hungary which sell Hungarian books (alexandra.hu, bookline.hu, libri.hu). Any of them is more relevant than Amazon but I do not know how to choose only one so I think it is better to stick with Amazon (it is a neutral choice). Also, there are Hungarian auction sites (vatera.hu, teszvesz.hu etc.) which might be more relevant than eBay. However, I would rather not recommend them. If I picked one, the others would ask why they were no picked.
Andras: maybe a look at what other locales do in this situation would help you. In PL we replace en-US plugins like Amazon with functionally equivalent sites that have the most market share (merlin.pl). So, I suppose you could do the same in the Hungarian version, if Mozilla approves that.
Marek: Prioritizing using the market share is a good idea, but I think it is hard to get unbiased data about who has what size of market share in Hungary.
Let's wrap this bug up for 2.0. Andras, Mic, I suggest that we look into Hungarian searches for 3.0 again. Marek may be able to help in finding and evaluating market data. There's no reason to rush Andras into decisions he's not comfortable with, and given that we only have a few days left to land changes, I don't see us coming up with something we're comfortable about, too. If that sounds right to you guys, we should open up a new bug, maybe in the marketing/BD component and assign it to Mic?
Axel: agreed.
Timar, mind filing the bug on Mic? For 2.0, I'm marking this bug FIXED, please test all plugins on a fresh profile and a nightly build and VERIFY.
