When in print preview under Linux (print.whileinPrintPreview = TRUE) the message "You cannot print while in print preview." appears after clicking on print in the ensueing printer dialog.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.set print.whileinPrintPreview to TRUE in about:config
2.File->Print Preview
3.Click on Print
4.Printer dialog appears. Click on print

Actual Results:
Error message popup: "You cannot print while in print preview."

Expected Results:
Document should print.

This occurs in Seamonkey (1.0.4) and Firefox (1.5.0.4) and has ALWAYS occurred on Mozilla browsers under Linux: Firefox since v0.8, Mozilla since Netscape!

I've tried on three different machines with installations of Fedora Cores 2,3,4 Suse from 9.2 to 10.1, Ubuntu 5.10, Mandrake 10, Mandrive 2005LE etc. etc.

Print preview has always worked perfectly under Windoze - from 98 to XP-Pro.
Related to bug 126802? (The reason I'm not marking this bug as a dup is that the reporter of this bug mentioned setting a hidden pref, print.whileinPrintPreview, that sounds like it should work around that bug.)
Hi guys,

I'm now on Firefox 2.0.0.3 under SuSE 10.2 and this problem, which has been now been around for over 5 years, is still there.

I know you're all over stretched volunteers etc. but it would really be nice if print preview worked under non-commercial OSes. (Even changing the scaling doesn't refresh correctly - you have to quit PP and go back in to see the effect.)

Cheers,

Pete

I can confirm this bug. I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.12 on Ubuntu Linux 7.10.

I too have set print.whileinPrintPreview to TRUE in about:config (this is needed to get the "print" and "zoom" buttons to appear in the print preview toolbar).

However when you click the "print" button you get the standard print dialog, and then when you click "print" again, it gives the "You cannot print while in print preview" error message. Also changing the zoom settings has no effect whilst in print preview in Linux.

I personally use both a Windows and a Linux desktop - Firefox's print preview screen in Windows is great and extremely useful, but the Linux one is crippled (to not show the print / zoom buttons by default) and broken (when you turn them on, they don't work).
I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.04 with Firefox 3 beta 5, and now this seems to work (i.e. I can now print in print preview mode in Linux). Once Firefox 3 is released, can anyone else (e.g. Pete?) confirm this on Linux? If so, then this bug can be closed.
I too have installed Ubuntu 8.04 and can confirm that Firefox 3 beta 5 has solved the bug. I can now print in print preview. And the scaling works as well which it doesn't in Firefox 2.

OTOH I don't know whether to mark this as fixed as Firefox 3 isn't released yet.
