I cannot get the Tools / Options / Privacy preference changes to be saved. For me this affects any changes to the Privacy area. Example: I try to set History to "Remember visited pages for the last" 30 "days" or turn ON "Allow sites to set cookies" on the Cookies tab then click on Ok. As long as Firefox remains open there is no problem, but if I close and reopen Firefox then the preference changes are gone.
Firefox help says no updates are available - so I guess that means I am running the latest version. I did see one other bug report that looked similar but the resolution was flagged as "Invalid" because the suggestion was made to 'create a new profile'. Does this mean create a new Windows XP Profile? That would involve reinstalling many software packages on the PC. Or is there a way to recreate a Firefox profile?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch Firefox
2. Click on the Tools pull-down menu and select Options
3. Click on the Privacy icon
4. On History tab set 'Remember visited pages for the last' 30 'days'
5. Click on Cookies tab and enable 'Allow sites to set Cookies'
6. Click on Ok
7. Select Tools / Options / Privacy / History & Cookies tabs to verify settings
8. Close Firefox
9. Open Firefox
10.Select Tools / Options / Privacy / Preference changes are not present
Actual Results:
Preference changes are not present
Expected Results:
Preference changes should have been saved

Try making a new firefox profile and see if the problem exists in that:
If the new profile remembers such changes, then there is something wrong with your old profile. It might be best if you migrate your bookmarks and cookies and history, etc, manually to the new profile
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Migrating_settings_to_a_new_profile
I wouldn't migrate your settings, since these are what seem to be causing you a problem with your current profile, and you don't want to migrate the problem with you :)

Steve,
I did access the Profile Manager and successfully created a new profile to use as Default User. So far this seems to be working fine. I understood your comment about just importing cookies and bookmarks, however I did have an very large number of themes and extensions installed. I there any way to get back all previously installed Firefox themes and extensions without possibly recorrupting the Profile? Or do you think one of the themes or extensions could have caused the problem in the first place? The theme I was using before and am currently using now is Blueshift (I reinstalled it) and it seems to be working fine.
Thanks, Ron

OK if a new profile is working for you, then yes, it's probably one of your themes or (more likely) one of your extensions causing the problem you're seeing. Probably best to disable your extensions until you find out which one is causing you grief.
