Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1b2) Gecko/20060821 Firefox/2.0b2
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1b2) Gecko/20060821 Firefox/2.0b2

The quick hack for keyword searches (to my understanding) was introduced as a way to workaround absence of "Manage Search Engines" dialog in earlier versions of Firefox/Mozilla. In other words, in absence of specialized GUI, bookmark management was used a way to add and manage user defined search engines.

Now enter management for search engines. Proposal.

1. "Add a Keyword for this Search" must add new search engine as visible in drop-down list of search engines and "Manage Search Engines" dialog.

2. "Manage Search Engines" dialog must allow user to assign a keyword for a search engine. Later on, user would use the keyword to invoke corresponding search engine directly from location input field.

I hope what I have said still classifies as "common sense" and would straighten Firefox' GUI. And allow me - end-user - easily add search engines w/o any special hacks.

Reproducible: Always
