Details

This problem has occurred in all of about 10 builds that I've tried in the past 2 months. Frequently, when I'm trying to read newsgroups, and I click on a newsgroup in the sidebar, the progress bar at the bottom of the screen will not update, the message pane (top right of the 3 pane) will not redraw with the contents of that newsgroup until I move another window over that pane or switch desktops. In addition, at the same time this first occurs, mouse overs on the buttons in the button bar fail to change the appearance of the buttons, holding the mouse over the menus in the menu bar or over menu items in those menus or context menus fails to highlight those menu items, and the web progress bar at the bottom does not change state regardless of what's going on with url loading. This behavior continues until mozilla exits or until a url load error occurs, such as the user type www.asdfasdfsadfasdfsa.com into the url bar and hits enter, or a non-existent newsgroup message is selected. I think this bug has probably been reported before, except for the fact that a url load error fixes all the symptoms. That's why I think this is an event handling bug. If you use a nightly build to read newsgroups on news.mozilla.org for any length of time, you'll see this problem.
Pretty sure this is a dup. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 29808 ***
