Details

Build: 2000040708 (latest nightly currently available) If you don't already have a profile and you try to start up mozilla, the profile manager will always fire up and ask you to create a profile. Mozilla will then continue on happily after you've told it 'yes, do this', but after you quit and restart you will again be asked to set up your profile. Any profile changes you made last session will be lost. This happens even if you don't do anything besides immediately quitting out of the browser. It also happens if you do make profile changes, or resize the browser window, or turn off the sidebar, or etc. This happens for me whether or not I accept the default name for the default profile, or pick another one. If you already have a profile created under some previous, working version of Mozilla (depending on the machine, I have them from M14 or from a recent nightly build), mozilla is happy with them and doesn't ask you to create a profile when you start it. This is 100% reproduceable for me. Reproduction: mv $HOME/.mozilla $HOME/.mozilla-hold ./mozilla [create profile and promptly quit] ./mozilla [watch it ask you to create a profile again]
Confirmed on i686-pc-linux-gnu Build 2000041008. Mozilla always asks you to create a profile on each of the first two initial launches of a new install.
Steve, This was reported in bug 35384 also- bug 28243 comes back.
