STR:
1) Open the the File menu
2) see the 7th item in the menu

Present Word: ssilka
Correct Word: ssidka

This would be a showstopper if a typo was found in such as visible spot for en-US.  So will add a screen snap and request blocking status.

Are you like kidding? :) There is no misspelling here at all!

Try using google for the "Present Word" and for the in"Correct Word" from the description of the bug.

Your opinion is fine with me.  It is hard to judge different opinions about translations.  We even tried an on-line Russian translation tool and it didn't recognize either spelling!

Actually, I verified the Cyrillic string from the source at online-translator.com, and that seems fine both spelling and translation wise. I didn't have a cyrillic version of the suggested replacement, so I couldn't cross check.

It's not a matter of opinion here, it's a matter of misspelling that's not even used by any considerable number of people.

Although Russian uses Cyrillic alphabet, the fact that a word does not return any results if transliterated indicates that the existence of the word in question is improbable. :)

For clarity, timr received a report from a QA tester that he forwarded to the Russian translation team through this bug. Seems so that we got hit by an invalid report, but neither tim nor me can find that out without filing the bug.

Regarding the reports on the online-translator.com, Constantine, feel free to head over there and try both transliterated words, that service just doesn't grok russian in latin chars. If we'd go the way that whatever it barfs on doesn't exist, I bet the complete russian language would suddenly disappear :-(.

If someone had a Cyrillic spelling of ssidka, I'd be happy to try that word and cross check (utf-8 encoded preferred).

That's right, and it shouldn't, because Russian should always be spelled in Cyrillic. 

What I claim is that if such a word exists, and is considered popular on the internet, which the word "ссылка" is, then you are guaranteed to find such word in Latin alphabet in a lot of places on the internet, mainly because some people who don't have a Russian keyboard aren't able to type in Cyrillic, so they use Latin instead, or because you'll find such word in a filename or something. (Moreover, in the old day, Cyrillic support was also hard to find and configure in some operating systems, so automatic transliteration web-servers (like "Russian Apache") existed to automatically convert Cyrillic into Latin upon the serving of a web-page, if a user so requests.) Trying google on the word in the original description proves this point.

If you want to check out the meaning of a word, I'd suggest that you try out lingvo.yandex.ru dictionary, which is included in Russian Firefox, I believe, to check out the meaning of distinct words. It doesn't require any registration and it has a very complete and descriptive dictionaries.

Axel, I don't know why you'd want to check it in the first place, if two long-term mozilla contributors, both native speakers, tell you that such word simply does not exist. I'd like to retract my claim from Comment #8 -- it's not even a misspelling, it's simply a typo: letters "л" (èl') and "д" (dè) follow each other on the QWERTY/ЙЦУКЕН keyboard, and you know that it's not uncommon to misplace a key. :)

Now that you have the other letter, you can make absolute sure that no dictionary returns any results and the translation is correct; or, alternatively, you may wish to believe in a www conspiracy. :)
