when a connection to the Sun-JES Calendar Server fails, the login dialog is thrown twice and corresponding error messages "there has been an error reading data for calendar: <user_id>" is also thrown twice.

STR (Steps To Reproduce)

 - launch TB + Ltng without vpn tunnel active to Sun-JES Server

Specific steps to reproduce this:
Start Thunderbird, an error message is displayed, "Session on calender-server.acme.com has timed out. Reconnect?"

Select "OK", get the same error message again, ad infinitum.  Select "Cancel" a  series (probably one for each time "OK" was chosen) of error windows, “There has been an error reading data for calendar: Edge.” is displayed.

alternative STR:

specify an http-URL for an edge-cal calendar server which requires https (example cal-emea.sun.com). The login dialog is offered. After entering your user-data a Reconnect dialog comes up. Select OK to reconnect and again the Login dialog is offered. Then again the Reconect dialog and so on again and again ..

Upon selecting Cancel a bunch of error messages is thrown (apparently one for each connection-attempt above):
