Addon Updater mark a Extension (PageStyle2Tab 0.7.4) as "will be installed after restart", but restarting Firefox doesn't change that status!

Recently I opened the Extension Manager and started the update at the update tab.
3 Addons where marked for update. Firefox downloaded them all and ask me to restart him. After the restart, the Extension (PageStyle2Tab 0.7.4) still has the state "will be installed after restart".
Clicking the Restart button doesn't help. Restarting Firefox doesn't help too.
Reproducible: Didn't try

Recent comments at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1523/comments/ indicate there might be a problem with v0.7.4 of this extension.
You are right, it's like descripted there.
I tried to uninstall an other extension: It has now the state: "will be uninstalled after restart". Restarting Firefox doen't help here too.
As I told you before, I updated 3 Extensions at once. The other two Extension aren't visible in the install tab of the extension manager, but they are marked as "will be installed after restart" in the first tab too.
The easiest work around is the installation of PageStyle2Tab 0.7.3.

I wasn't aware there was a bug on this -- I emailed the author, as well as Rob Strong, about this problem and added the above notice to AMO. I was planning on deleting that version in 2 days if there's no reply from the author. I didn't delete the version from AMO because I wasn't sure if it was a problem for everyone or just some people (I was hoping the AMO reviewer hadn't approved it without installing it at all).
Since we haven't found anyone that's able to successfully install it, I'll delete 0.7.4 from AMO now and remove the notice.

Since you can no longer download the problematic version from AMO, here's the file:

Why did you post the link for the download of this extension? The link provided doesn't solve this problem. I had already reinstalled version-7.3 of this extension which immediately resolved the problem. And then I tried reinstalling from this link provided, only to encounter the same problem. Please just can this until a real solution is given for this. It causes too many problems to be worth the effort.
There needs to be some sort of inherent verification system embedded in Firefox to determine if any extension meets a specified list of security requirements before allowing any extension to be installed. I am now wondering if this same author wasn't responsible for problems I had experienced before with 'ghosting' and other issues which I may have erroneously blame on the author of Mr Tech Local Install. If this is true, I am deeply sorry. But whatever the case, these kinds of problems need to be eliminated. PERIOD! Either an extension passes a dependency check, or it can't be installed. PLEASE put an end to this.

For those of you who may not know American colloquialisms, my statement to 'can this' translates to 'trash it'. The quick fix seems to be to reinstall the older version of Pagestyle2tab.

(In reply to comment #8)
fligtar (an admin of addons.mozilla.org) posted the link so that people would still have access to the extension for trouble shooting purposes, since he had removed it from the Add-ons site itself.
Extensions posted to addons.m.o are reviewed, mostly to check functionality, but are not security audited AFAIK. The bug with PageStyle2Tab 0.7.4 should have caught, but somehow it made it through - there are not enough reviewers at the best of times, let alone when many authors are updating for Firefox 2.
If you have concerns, I suggest you bring them up on IRC (#addons on irc.mozilla.org).

I have the same problem with Mouse Gestures Redox ver 2.0.2 and a version of NoScript. For NoScript I cancelled the add-on installation which I think reverted to an old version - works for now. Not the same luck with the mouse gestures - it simply dissapears when I click the cancel button and restart firefox. I'm using: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008072820 Firefox/3.0.1

removing qawanted keyword. PageStyle2Tab 0.7.4 no longer exists on AMO today, and its currently up to version 0.8.
Keywords: qawanted

Can no longer get to the problematic extension but it is pretty likely this is fixed with the new extension manager.
