Description

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 mscha/1968.9.17
Build Identifier: Thunderbird 2.0b1pre (Windows/20061024)

If deletion of an IMAP mailbox fails (for instance, it is in use by another mail application), Thunderbird reports no error.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Thunderbird, and open the mailbox you intend to delete.
2. Start some other mail application (or Thunderbird on another machine), log onto the same account, and open the mailbox you intend to delete.
3. In the first instance of Thunderbird, right-click on the mailbox in question, and choose "Delete"
4. The mailbox is removed from the list of mailboxes.
5. After restarting Thunderbird, the mailbox is back.

Actual Results:
The mailbox is not removed, but there is no error message.

Expected Results:
There should be an error message stating that the mailbox could not be deleted, and why.

The IMAP communication in this case couldn't be clearer:

    14 delete "Mail/fee"
14 NO Mailbox Mail/fee is in use by another process

Note that this was tested using UW imapd version 2006c.

Which deletion model in Thunderbird are you using to see this?

What do you mean? Move to trash / mark as deleted / delete immediately? That is only for deleting messages, while this is about deleting folders.

Comment 3

Oh, wait... I never realized that this setting is used for deletion of folders too.
In any case, I have "mark as deleted" set, which, for folders, basically does "delete immediately".

I don't think we are going to get to this for thunderbird 2. I would be interested in knowing if this is a regression from 1.5.0.9.

No, it's not a regression from 1.5.0.*; it behaves exactly the same as 2.0b2.

The mail folder is "MIX format folder of UW-IMAP"? If yes, issue of "NO to delete command from UW-IMAP" itself is being processed in Bug 357911.
