Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727)
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/2.0

I installed version 2.0 last night without removing my previous installation of Firefox first. I don't see any bookmarks or the personal toolbar links similar to bug 319196. However, in my installation if I type in a URL into the address bar and hit enter or click the green arrow, or type in a search word in the search bar and click the magnifying glass or hit enter... nothing happens. I can't get any website to load. I tried creating a new profile, but this did not solve the problem.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install a previous build of Firefox (I wish i knew the version)
2. Add some bookmarks and a personal toolbar containing folders.
3. Install version 2.0 of Firefox.

Actual Results:
Firefox is inoperable.

Expected Results:
Firefox imports my old bookmarks and actually works.

It should have worked.
Does the problem occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode?

I'm not sure now. I uninstalled Firefox 2.0, went into my Program Files\ directory, and deleted the "Mozilla Firefox" directory. I then re-installed Firefox 2.0 and it seems to be working just fine. I'm just having to replace all of my bookmarks/passwords etc. Not too inconvenient for getting to use a great browser.

The only other detail I forgot to add is that this computer is a multi-user (home) system, I'm not sure if that would be a significant detail.
I'm suspecting it was one of your extensions that caused the problem,
can you remember which ones you had installed?
-Definitely:
Adblock
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/10/
BugMeNot

PasswordMaker
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/469/

-Possibly:
FlashBlock
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/433/
FasterFox
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/433/

I haven't upgraded Firefox on my work computer yet and it has the following extensions:
DomInspector, Talkback, ImageZoom, AdBlock, BugMeNot, SearchStatus, IE Tab, Web Developer.

I'll install 2.0 on that system and see if any of those common extensions may be the culprit.
I downloaded Firefox 2.0 and installed it on my work computer. During the installation I saw a screen similar to "The following plugins are not compatible with version 2.0". I continued the installation and the program is working fine.

The aforementioned screen did not appear when I installed Firefox on my home computer.

Possible theory why the home installation failed... the home system was multi-user and one of my family members may have had a Firefox browser open in their workspace?
