User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; csb; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; csb; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0

I would like to start a new translation of Firefox into Kashubian language.

Details:

name: Michal Ostrowski,
email: ostrowski.michal@gmail.com

language code: csb
NATIONCODE: pl

Reproducible: Always
Confirming the bug. The l10n code should be just "csb" (ISO-639-2).

Some more information:
* the Kashubian language has official status in Poland as a regional language in the Pomerania region, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashubian_language for details
* Michal's team has also done Kashubian localization of K-Meleon, KDE and Ubuntu (linuxcsb.org)

If needed, either I or gandalf can vouch here.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
I could vouch here after reviewing Michal's package.

Michal, please attach here Fx2 l10n bits that you translated already
Attached file Some translations of Fx2 (obsolete) —
I tried to choose only those files that are fully translated into Kashubian, although it could happen that I include also a few partially translated.
I should probably post this somewhere more public, but we're on a stall for new languages until we have resolved some of our growth problems in l10n.

Summary: Request for new language - Kashubian → Registration request for Kashubian [csb]
I hope it will not take long time... Anyway, we're still translating. Please inform us when it will be possible to become official l10n team.

On behalf of the Mozilla Project, I'd like to apologise for the delay in processing this request. We very much appreciate offers of help in localization.

If anyone reading this is still interested in helping to translate one or more Mozilla products into the language that this bug is about, please add a new comment to this bug to confirm your interest, saying again which products you would like to localize e.g., Firefox, Thunderbird. We will then make the necessary arrangements.
Good to hear that! I'm still very interested in translating Firefox.
Great :-) You need to read this wiki page:
http://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n:Starting_a_localization

Create yourself a wiki page for your localisation, which registers you as the team for that language. Then, follow the instructions on the wiki to produce a language pack you can distribute through addons.mozilla.org. Once you have reached that stage, we can consider your pack for official status - although I should warn you that this is a separate process with its own complexities. Still, the community will still be able to get your pack from addons.mozilla.org in the meantime.

If you have read carefully and find the documentation isn't good enough in any way, please let us know and we will improve it.

The attachment looks promising so far, 103 files, 162 files missing still, though.
Michal: how are you doing? Have you been able to make any more progress?

I have a lot of work done now. Unfortunately mostly for FF 2.x. What I've already finished or almost finished (for 2.x) is: Browser, Dom, Reporter, Minimo, Netwerk, Other-Licences, Security, and Toolkit folders. I haven't done anything in Calendar or Mail folders. Now I'm moving all that I've done to FF 3.x. As for now, I have 100% done in Browser folder. Other folders will be ready within two or three weeks.
You can forget about calendar and mail folders. Firefox doesn't contain files from these folders. Calendar is required for Sunbird and Lightning, mail is required for Thunderbird.
Only these folders are needed for Firefox:

browser/
dom/
extensions/
netwerk/
other-licenses/branding/firefox
security/
toolkit/

If you really have them "almost finished", it should still be possible to have csb in for a 2.0.0.x release.
Marek, you are right, but moving to FF3 is much slower than we thought before and working with more than one translation would be problem for us. Some changes and revisions in our translation are necesary due to newly published documents by Kashubian Language Council (some minor grammar and spelling changes).
Despite what Marek said we're unlikely to be taking on more languages in addition to those already in the queue for fx2. We could get a language up on AMO for Firefox 2, though.

Firefox 3 work is now in string freeze already, that means there will only be a few more string changes busting that freeze.

Hi Michal:

Hope you are doing well. I am not sure where you are in your localization effort at this time. Have you progressed further with FF3?

If you have, thank you for all of your work at localizing. We're at the unique point of determining if you should localize for Firefox 3 or move onto localizing for Firefox 3.1, depending on your availability and interest.

If you are interested in working on *something* that is stable, you can continue to focus on localizing Firefox 3. We can get stable builds going for you. However, we will eventually ship your work in Firefox 3.1 and you will need to update the effort you are putting into Firefox 3 right now. The good news is that the string changes from Fx 3 --> Fx 3.1 are presently small in number (~30), so the update should not be too much too handle.

However, if you are interested in moving your effort toward localizing Firefox 3.1, then you can read the following documentation on working with Mercurial and getting a local environment set up on your machine.

http://developer.mozilla.org/en/L10n_on_Mercurial

or learn the basics about Mercurial here:

http://developer.mozilla.org/en/Mercurial

Thanks so much for your hard work. As always, ping us with any questions, we are ready to help.

Kind regards,
Sethb
