User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 I love the "clear private data" feature of 2.0; the next logical step in my mind and a very desirable feature (I suspect to others as well) is to open a new "private" window, in which anything that happens there is "session only" and when closed invokes the "clear private data" for only that window/session. Basically just a window that is completely sandboxed. Perhaps also as a menu item off of a right-clicked hyperlink (open in private window...)? I try to keep track of and clean my cookies and cache, if someone sends me a link to some unknown place it would be great to know that I can open it up in a special window/tab and when I close it, all of the cookies/cache/etc. that it generates will be gone. If this is a duplicate I apologize, I could not find anything like this while searching through the bug list. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: N/A -- feature request

Something like the Stealther extension? https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1306/

Re: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1306/ Like that, but I was hoping that rather than disabling cookies/cache/etc. altogether, that it would just be for "private" windows -- my other windows and tabs would still work as normal. Perhaps that's what this extension does, but from the description it sounds like a more global setting. I will email the developer and see how it works, if it can do per window/tab either now or easily in the future I'll close out this request, but otherwise I think it'd be a great thing to have.

Well I haven't heard anything from the developer, so I will leave this open as I still think it's a neat feature.

Firefox new "private mode" will be a step towards this, but probably not yet the exact per-window behaviour as requested in this bug. Nice idea.
This should be marked as a duplicate of bug 463027.
