paste to gmail hyperlink popup puts text in rich editor -- not in popup text field

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Log in to gmail (http://mail.google.com)
2. ensure you are using the "standard" view (not "basic HTML)
3. compose a new email message
4. type some text in the body via the rich text editor textarea
5. select some text
6. select the "hyperlink" control (to enter hyperlink href text). You'll see a JavaScript dialog window pops up w/ a single text field (labeled "enter a URL"). If you type into the field it works fine, but...
7. paste some text e.g. command-v on Mac into the "enter a URL" field
Actual Results:
The pasted text lands not in the text field, but back in the rich text editor (for the body of the email).

Expected Results:
Pasted text lands in the text field labeled "enter a URL" -- not in the rich text editor (for the body of the email).
