I am using multidesk, a nice freeware utility for multiple desktops on NT/W2000. I have problem with modal dialogs that pop-up from windows that are not on current virtual desktop. For example 'host not found' error dialog. The problem: The dialog is not clickable/focusable when this happens. Focus is locked to it's parent window and there is nothing to be done except killing the process. I have also tried this on another virtual desktop utility (FreeDesktops) and the problem is the same. I will try some others, when I have the time.
Uh-oh. I haven't seen one for WinNT, but for Win9x a number of video cards ship with extras for expanded (pan&scan) or extra desktops. There is always the possibility that they all use the same hooks...

Like bug 39439, "modal dialogs become inaccessible", this may be dependent on bug 27048 and get better when the latter is fixed, or when bug 28594 is fixed.

Marko, do you still see this on current builds?
Well, on 2001041104 build I managed to reproduce the problem even without any virtual desktop software, just plain Win2000. It occurs pretty easily in subscribe dialog if I switch between mozilla/other windows when it is refreshing the newsgroup list.
I've got this one too. Except that it effects all Mozilla windows, not just dialogs.. See bug 59735. Using LiteStep on Windows 2000, with 6 virtual desktops.
Umm, a correction to my comment above. I can click the dialogs. They're just on another desktop. For example, I mistype the url, think that the connection is just slow and leave the browser searching for the page, then change the desktops and do some other stuff. After a while I check the browser window again and it seems to be frozen. The reason is that there is a "host not found" dialog or similar on another desktop and it's stealing the focus from the browser window. Usually the dialog is hidden under other windows, so one might get a feeling that Mozilla has locked up.

Closing this as resolved:incomplete due to lack of activity on this issue and that it might've relied on Multidesk functionality that most certainly changed in the last 20 years. If this issue is still relevant for today's Firefox version, please do re-open it
