It would be nice to see events on a specific day from the sidebar without changing the to the grid pane (while reading an email for example).

This can be accomplished with a "selected" filter in the agenda if the minimonth selected day is not today or tomorrow.

This seems to be fixed by the miniday pane (bug 388414).
