We need a release notes page for the upcoming Gran Paradiso Gecko 1.9 Alpha1 release. It should look similar to the Bon Echo release notes pages for alphas (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/bonecho/releases/2.0a1.html) note: the URI for this page is determined by browser/app/firefox-branding.js I'll post content shortly based on release note information passed to me by the Gecko 1.9a1 team. Steven: we're going to need a new background image called releasenotes-granparadiso-alpha1.png which looks like http://www.mozilla.org/projects/bonecho/releases/releasenotes-bonecho-alpha1.png but with: Gran Paradiso gecko 1.9 release notes alpha 1 as the text

I'll be amazed if I got this right the first time. And I know it's missing the bug references for a lot of the known issue, but I worked with what I had.

I'm not sure exactly how the suggested text should be arranged in the image. Here's a first-try. Let me know if/how it should change. Thanks.
Attaching the Gimp version of the release notes file with editable text. Mostly for my own sake come time for Alpha 2, etc.
Comment on attachment 247253 [details] Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 Release Notes a=cbeard, with the suggested change that the first line read: "Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 is an early developer milestone for the next major version of Firefox that is being built on top of the next generation of Mozilla's layout engine, Gecko 1.9."

What is the goal of putting Windows 98/ME paths in a table when it's no longer supported?
Comment on attachment 247253 [details] Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 Release Notes The "Safe Mode" instructions for Mac OS X still have "BonEcho.app" ;)
> Changes to how <tt><object</tt> elements are loaded Needs some escaping.
It might be worth mentioning these changes: Bug 336359, Fire WHATWG DOM events when going online or offline Bug 287813, nsCaret overhaul (see http://www.squarefree.com/burningedge/2006/04/21/2006-04-21-trunk-builds/ for some of the bugs fixed by it)
> OS X 10.3.9 or better higher
In the "Known Issues" section, I'd combine the "All Systems" and "Web Page Rendering" subsections.
i ran during tests into Bug 341950 (safe browsing notification is hidden by content area). Maybe this also worth a "known issue" (i don`t know if its too late). Because of this you don`t get the "big Phishing warning pop up" (get me out of here / Ignore this warning) Popup on Phishing Sites. And maybe this is important to "protect" the people testing and using 1.9a1 from phishing.
Shouldn't the profile folder win98/ME location be removed?

> Jesse, please make sure I've expressed things correctly as per your suggestions The caret and offline bits belong under "Changes in this milestone", not under "Known issues". Otherwise, looks like my suggestions have been incorporated correctly. > <a href=https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341950">bug 341950</a> The opening quote is missing, resulting in a broken link. Please run the page through an HTML validator after fixing that to check for other markup typos. What strategy are you using to figure out which bugs/regressions should be mentioned in the release notes? There are 164 bugs with the "relnote" keyword, making that keyword not very useful :( It's interesting that the number of bugs mentioned is close to the number of bugs mentioned in recent Burning Edge posts, but they mostly aren't the same bugs.
> Compatibility issues have been reported when users are not running Xorg 7.0 or better. Does this refer to older versions of Xorg, competing implementations, forks, or more than one of the above? It's not clear to me, but I'm not a Linux user.
"This Page Is Valid HTML 4.01 Transitional!" :) - fixed bug Jesse mentioned - removed redundant </ul><ul> pair in the sidenav Jesse: the list of noted features for the release notes was compiled by people sending me things they thought relnoteworthy and me doing a big of a SWAG based on what, exactly, these notes are meant to do. Specifically, they're meant to be a high-level overview of what people should be testing and playing with. We still need to build a "What's new in Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 for Developers" document to put on MDC, in my opinion, and a full changelog would be nice.

(In reply to comment #2) > I'm not sure exactly how the suggested text should be arranged in the image. > Here's a first-try. Let me know if/how it should change. Thanks. Steven, sorry for even asking for the "gecko 1.9" text. Let's just stick with the standard "Gran Paradiso Alpha 1" text like we did with Bon Echo. Please resubmit when you get a chance, thanks.
Here's the release notes image updated with beltzner's astute requests.
