User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; fr; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061208 Firefox/2.0.0.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; fr; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061208 Firefox/2.0.0.1 Hi, I encounter failure to access web pages (HTTP) when the subdomain name starts or ends with a hyphen '-' using FF 2.0.0.1 on Linux only (OK for XP and OSX): http://-foo.domain.com or http://foo-.domain.com (specifically for images on "usercash.com"). Firefox 2.0.0.1 (and 1.5.0.3 english before) tells me: Server not found Firefox can't find the server at foo-.domain.com. (etc) Ex: http://nzfgko5zk99nadmwap-.usercash.com/ or http://p8ocuz91sdoq5---.usercash.com/ (Photos of Bai Ling) It works fine on Windows XP and Mac OSX but on Linux only if the hyphens are anywhere else as in http://pl5v686awypc-8rvl.usercash.com/. Here is a summary of a few tips (thanks to users all around the world for their help) to identify the possible causes: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=2682174#2682174 Hth, L. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install FF 2.0.0.1 on a Linux recent distro (used Ubuntu 6.06 and Mandriva 10.2) 2. Type any URL which subdomain starts or ends with a hyphen '-' 3. Enter or click on the right arrow near location bar and... Actual Results: Server not found for http://-foo.domain.com or http://foo-.domain.com Expected Results: Page normally loaded like in http://any-subdomain.domain.com/ Just added shockwave flash plugin. No extensions added. FF 2.0.0.1 directly downloaded and installed as binaries from http://www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-2.0.0.1&os=linux&lang=fr Same behavior with FF 1.5.0.3 english on Mandriva 10.2 and Ubuntu 6.06 (upgraded to FF 2.0.0.1 only with the hope bug would be already fixed)

Well according to bug 196852 it is a normal behaviour in respect to RFC 952 about host names resolving since FF uses the system to resolve hostnames and Linux seems the only OS (among Window$ and Mac O$ X) to respect IP standards. Just wondering why nslookup is able to resolve it under Linux... I'm sorry for bugging you about that. I won't use "usercrap.com" anymore... :-D
