I'm copying Stanley Ho and Ed Burns for their information.

Stanley, can you take a look at this?  I wonder if it's a JDK install thing or
if it's a Netscape issue.

Dear bug reporter: can you provide more information about the bug?  For example, 
did you already have a JDK installed on your machine?  Was this the first time
you tried to install Netscape 6, or were you re-installing over an existing
Netscape 6 PR 1 install?  Anything else you can say about the install process 
hanging?  Have you tried downloading Java 2 separately and installing that?

I'll leave it to Stanley to ask more specific, and probably helpful, questions.

I haven't had a chance to research a bit more details on those JAVA install 
problems...  But, apparently, there are enough noise out there to pay some 
attention.  From what I see, most of the hang/crash problems happens on win95 & 
win98 machines.

Issue Detail: I ran the Setup program and all files were
downloaded properly. Upon the installation of the
Sun Java portion, a message box displayed to wait
while Sun Java was being configured. I waited
about 25 minutes and then closed the setup
program. The browser worked upon execution, and
the fact that Sun Java was not properly configured
didn't seem to affect anything. On my Windows 98
system, I have Internet Explorer 5.01 and Netscape
4.72 installed.

Issue Detail: I was running the installation program and when it
got the the point where it was configuring Java it
stopped running. Ctl Alt Del didn't show any not
responding messages but my computer still didn't
continue the installation. I finally discontinued
setup and tried opening the product. It opened but
I don't think installation is complete.

Issue Detail: I downloaded Netscape 6.0 perfectly.  It took 3
and a half hours.  Then it configured Java 1 in
about 3 minutes.  Java 2 came up to configure and
it said wait and i did for over 7 hours and i just
had to shut down.  Did it configure or not?  How
can i tell?  Was there anything else following it
that did not get done?   Second problem -  went to
register my netscape and i am Canadian and Canada
was not an option for countries.   Did i waste all
that time downloading this????????  Explorer
crashes all the time now too - is this related????

Issue Detail: Ran the setup and when it gets to setting up java 2 it hangs on 
this screen. I have to reboot to get out of it. Have download the program 3 
times now and it is the same spot that it hangs on. I booted the last time with 
no other programs running in the background. Is there some way that I can get 
the program as  whole instead of the files that are downloaded now.  I can go to 
the temp folder and start the setup from there but it always wants to go to the 
web to finish downloading the files when they are in the temp folder.

Issue Detail: During installation of Netscape 6.0, it stalled
when configuring the Java components.  I waited a
very long time for the installation to finish, but
it never did.  I finally killed the application to
regain control of my workstation. When the
installation was stalled, the Windows NT task
manager did not report the application as "Not
Responding" - though it clearly wasn't.  Instead
it said the installation program was "Running".

After killing the installation to regain control
of my system, Netscape 6.0 appears to be
installed.  I can run the app and browse with it
(I am right now).  Though it did not migrate my
old Netscape Communicator 4.6 settings into 6.0 -
which is annoying.

Hi all,

I've gotten some good info from the JDK group (at Sun) saying that this is a
known JRE installer issue.  Netscape and Sun have been kind enough to distribute
a pre-release version of the JDK 1.3 for Windows --- it is Sun's "Release
Candidate 1", but that is not the final FCS version.

This installer problem is fixed in the next Release Candidate.  I'll update the
bug again when I have a precise idea about when this fix can be delivered with
Netscape 6 and available for Mozilla (same issue, different distribution
mechanism).

I installed Java on Tuesdays Win32  2000-07-11-08 build and it did not fail for 
Win95.

gbush, can you try latest custom install adding Java on an NT machine as a 
reality check.  marking this Revolved/Fixed.  gbush can mark Verified if all is 
well :-)
