I hit ctrl-H and open the History sidebar. It's empty. It's always empty. I can go back and forth and click on things as much as I like in the main window, and the History sidebar will stay empty. It's clearly broken.
Which build are you using? You should always provide build information when filing a bug. If this is your own build, this is likely a duplicate of bug 364377.
I'm using the Firefox 2.0.0.1 release on WinXP. But I don't recall the history sidebar working in any previous release, either. Which is probably why I don't use sidebars much.
Does it work in safe mode? If the history sidebar was broken for everyone in 2.0.0.1 we'd have heard about it before now...
In safe mode, hitting forward/back and clicking on links still doesn't do anything. Blank. But when I type a new url in the location bar, a 'Today' folder appears, and only typed urls appear in the box. Including mistyped urls, which shows that the history box has the same problem as the location dropdown (bug 9203) and location autocomplete (bug 366641). Is that all this does? Even when this works, it's not very useful. I miss the history behaviour of, oh, netscape 4.

Lloyd, have you tried with a clean profile? It's possible the profile might be corrupted in some way.
