Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20060601 Firefox/2.0.0.1 (Ubuntu-edgy) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20060601 Firefox/2.0.0.1 (Ubuntu-edgy) In the preferences under tabs there are four checkboxes the last box is "when I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately" is NOT selected. This works fine on links embedded in a web page, but when opening a link from the bookmarks or live book marks Firefox automatically switches to the newly opened tab. Whether this is a "bug" is probably debatable, but from my perspective it is at least an annoyance. This also happens on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows:U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US;rv:1.8.1.1)Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Ensure that the preferences are set as described in the Details so that links opened in a new tab check box is not selected. 2. middle click, or right click and select open in new tab to any item in your bookmarks or live bookmarks. Actual Results: new tab is opened and focus is automatically switched to the newly opened tab. Expected Results: based on the preferences settings as described above, the results I would expect is that the focus would remain on the current tab you are viewing.
This works fine for me. Can you test in firefox's safe mode: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode
I started Firefox in safe mode and the problem still exists, maybe I didn't describe the problem well enough. Dave, you commented that it works fine for you? do you mean that when you open a bookmark in a new tab, that the current tab, (not the new one you are opening), remains the tab with the focus? Like I said, some people may not consider this a "bug" per say but it is an annoyance to me as I would expect that opening a link, whether it be from your bookmarks or from within a new web page would result in the same behavior which is not the case here.
I mean that when I middle click a bookmark it doesn't focus a new tab.
well this happens on both windows and Linux platforms for me. personally I like to be able to open many tabs to view at a later time and when I open a live bookmark especially it's annoying that the focus is brought to that page instead of the current page I am viewing. not only that but it is inconsistant with the preferences settings that are displayed. what version are you currently running? this may have been fixed/changed since 2.0.0.1, just a thought.
Have you testing in Firefox's safe mode as I asked?
As I stated in comment #2 I did on both Linux and windows platforms with no different results, as it this behavior exists on two different platforms both running normally and in -safe-mode.
