Sunbird thinks that is running when has no write access to profile directory

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. create new profile
2. close sunbird
3. deny all permissions for Sunbird/Profiles/<profile dir>
4. launch Sunbird
Actual Results:
popup says Sunbird is already running, but is not responding

Expected Results:
before displaing such alert (which is confiused for users who can check that this is not true - need to open task manager to verify it) sunbird should check permission of profile directory

similar bug 348364 but in this one I don't need to kill the process

also when I want to run Sunbird using -profilemanager I can start other profiles but for this one I get alert that profile because "it is in use"
WFM using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a2pre) Gecko/20070113 Calendar/0.4a1

But I managed to freeze Sunbird: bug 367620
What I did was to deny permission (current user), not to make directory as read-only, this is what have you tried?

I wasn't sure how you denied permission so I made the profile directory as read-only

Ok there is one more thing that I haven't mentioned before that helps: I have NTFS file system where I can set permission per each user: Properties of directory, and in third tab (Security or similar) you can allow or deny any permission you wish. I denied all for current user. It's hard to do it with FAT32
Is this a Sunbird-specific behaviour or does this bug also occur in Firefox, Thunderbird or Seamonkey? If yes, then please move this bug to the Core Product - Profile Manager component.
good point
yes, the same for firefox
Component: General → Profile: BackEnd
Product: Calendar → Core
QA Contact: general → profile-manager-backend
Summary: sunbird thinks that is running when has no access to profile directory → sunbird/firefox thinks that is running when has no access to profile directory
Version: unspecified → Trunk
Making subject more generic and also extending to directory doesn't exist (bug 480309), as I bet its the same issue.
Summary: sunbird/firefox thinks that is running when has no access to profile directory → gecko app thinks that is running when has no access to profile directory or the directory does not exist
This bug is filed in a bugzilla component related to pre-Firefox code which no longer exists. I believe it is no longer relevant and I am therefore closing it INCOMPLETE.

If you believe that this bug is still valid and needs to be fixed, please reopen it and move it to the Toolkit:Startup and Profile System product/component.
