pressing space in input field scrolls page

Details
Whenever one presses space in an input field and the end of the page is not yet
reached the page is scrolled further down. The space keypress is also recorded
in the input field but if the page is longer one does not see what one is
typing.
Since I have only Linux machines I cannot test whether this happens on other
platforms and therefore conservatively categrorized the problem as GTK problem.
This is with the sources from the CVS archive checked out at about
2000-04-23T10:00-0700.
