Seen while testing, not sure it is our problem but raising it anyway since it impacts the user experience. STR: 1. Have Firefox as the default browser, and then uninstall it. 2. Try to launch a link from the Start | Search Bar. 3. Receive the attached screenshot. Other information: Just launching IE wasn't enough for it to restore itself as the default browser. In my testing scenario I had to go the Vista Default Programs and reset IE as the default browser after I had uninstalled Firefox. I believe if you try to launch a file from the Desktop that you will get a prompt that asks you what to open the program with, but I have to verify if that sets something back as the default browser on Vista. What I am concerned about is that users will potentially blame Firefox for this.
i can confirm marcia`s report, i see the same also on my vista installation
One thing that has changed in Vista is that it has IE7 which by default does not prompt to be set as default. Otherwise, the behavior described has been around since at least 1.5 and probably 1.0 and bug 255225 will fix this even though the behavior is the with Opera and probably other browser apps (I have tested on XP and though it is possible that it is different with Vista I highly doubt it) as noted in bug 255225.
