Getting this on the radar....

These are the first draft of notes for 1.1b. They're rougher than usual because froodian is shot and I've been too tired to keep hammering at them when I have time.
Since there isn't going to be a second beta, there's no need to imply there will be (so Beta rather than Beta 1, like 0.8).

(need to keep the wiki notes in sync with whatever changes we make here...wiki notes only list the 1.1b changes, not the full set like the .rtf)
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED

> About Camino 1.1 Beta
We have an ® in the ®€@DM∑ now, do we want one here too?
(I'm disappointed that Unicode doesn't have a distinct code point for DM.)
> Note that Camino 1.1 Beta is in the “beta” stage
Duh? How about "note that this version is in the “beta” stage"?
> Camino 1.1 Beta shares the same code base as Firefox 2.0, both being based
> on version 1.8.1 of Gecko
"both being based on Gecko 1.8.1"?
> If Camino crashes, on the next launch it provides the option to restore
> the pages that were open prior to crashing.
"If Camino quits unexpectedly and is relaunched, it will provide the option to restore the pages that had previously been open."?
> The site icon for local files now acts as a proxy for the file and
> behaves like the titlebar proxy icon in applications like TextEdit.
Why are we singling out TextEdit? How about "and behaves consistently with Apple's Human Interface Guidelines"?
> Fixed a bug in Camino 1.1a2 where icons in the Bookmarks Manager or the
> location bar for missing local files were sometimes displayed improperly.
Why is Bookmarks plural? (Consistency is a good excuse, do we use that terminology elsewhere?)
"Icons for missing local files are now displayed properly in the location bar and the Bookmark[s] Manager."?
Nit: trailing space.
> Renamed the "Keyword" field "Shortcut" to more accurately reflect its
> function.
Curl those quotes.
"The “Keyword” field has been renamed “Shortcut” to more accurately reflect its function."?
> Restored the preference to disable plug-ins (which was removed in Camino
> 0.9).
"Restored the preference to disable plug-ins. This preference was removed in Camino 0.9."?
> Camino now includes a preference to enable restoring of pages which were
> open when the user quit Camino.
"Added a preference to restore pages that were open when the user last quit Camino."?
> The “Pop-up Exceptions List” now includes the ability to allow or deny
> pop-up windows from specific sites.
Nit: trailing space.
> Camino now includes support for Kerberos authentication used in many
> internal networks.
"Camino now supports Kerberos authentication, most commonly seen on internal networks."?
> Camino now reads Safari keychain items that match with a generic port if
> no item that matches with a specific port is available.
"Camino now uses Keychain passwords saved without a port number if no password with a specific port is available. This improves compatibility with Keychain passwords stored by Safari."?
> “Reset Camino…” now removes any passwords in the Keychain that were created
> or changed by Camino 1.1a2 or later.
I don't think this is entirely correct. Doesn't "Reset Camino..." only remove passwords that have Camino set as the creator? If Safari created an entry, and Camino later changes it in place because the user changes the password, won't it still have Safari set as the creator?
> Camino now checks the “form action domain” before filling saved usernames
> and passwords from the Keychain and prompts the user if the “form action
> domain” does not match.
You guys are killing me, here.
"Camino now prompts the user before automatically filling a form with a saved username and password if the domain name that the form will be submitted to has changed since the password was saved."? Still kind of a mouthful, but it's better.
> When a website wants to show a pop-up window, the pop-up blocker
Do websites have wants? "When a website tries"?
Nit: trailing space at the end of this bullet point.
> If a URL sent to Camino from an external application is already open,
> Camino will show the existing tab or window containing that URL instead of
> opening a new tab or window.
"If an external application tries to open a link in Camino, and it is already open, Camino will show the existing tab or window instead of opening a new one."
> Long page titles will now properly middle-truncate in the title bar.
Cool, I missed this. Window menu too? (You don't need to say if so, I just want to know.)
"Middle-truncate" is jargonish. "Long pages titles will now properly display in the title bar with an ellipsis (…) in the middle."?
> The hover state for the pop-up blocker’s close button now appears properly,
> and the button itself is now more visible.
"The pop-up blocker’s close button is shown with the correct appearance when the mouse pointer is over it, and the button itself is now more visible."?
Nit: trailing space.
> Camino no longer opens a new window or tab when the user Cmd-clicks a
> mailto: link.
|mailto:| should be monospaced.
Some keystrokes in the file say "Cmd", some "cmd", and some "Command". Another ⌥ is ⌘. (See page U+2300.) Discuss.
> Camino now supports learning and ignoring words when checking spelling in
> web page text fields.
"Camino can now learn and ingore words when checking spelling in text fields in web pages."?
> Camino now includes support for “click-to-play” blocking of Flash
> animations (based on http://flashblock.mozdev.org/).
The link target should be that URL, but the text should be "FlashBlock". Prefer a comma-ified clause to parentheses? If you want to retain the link as text so that copy-and-pasters and printouts can still make use of the link, then this should be "Flash animations, based on FlashBlock from http://flashblock.mozdev.org/." like how the WMP item in Known Issues points a finger at F4M.
On to Known Issues - check these lines for trailing whitespace.
> Some users report have reported that their bookmarks have disappeared
> when relaunching Camino and the Camino’s bookmarks backup file is corrupted.
> Users are advised to make regular copies of their bookmarks.
"Report" or "have reported", but not both!
"Some users have reported losing their bookmarks when Camino’s bookmarks backup file becomes corrupted."
> Some users have experienced a situation where pages would appear not
> to load after clicking on a link. In this case, resizing the browser
> window will cause the page to display properly.
"may allow" instead of "will cause"?
> The version of RealPlayer released in May 2006, version 10.1.0 (v400)
"RealPlayer version 10.1.0 (v400), released in May 2006"?
> Microsoft’s Windows Media Player (WMP) plugin causes major rendering issues
> in Camino.
Not only are they issues, but they are MAJOR! Can we find a way to kill this one, too?

Per discussion on irc. Find/replace to wack period-trailing-space. Other added goodness, and "Flashblock" ;)
