This failure to accomplish sending articles to friends by the E-mail links on the article pages fails on all. An example:
• Blog This
• E-mail This link will not open to anything except what you can see below.
• Print
• Digg
• del.icio.us
• Sphere

The above E-mail link address is: http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=249&tag=nl.e539#
I always get the window when clicking on the E-mail link that says what I entered in the above Summary box. Can somebody fix it?
Thanks,
Don Carroll donmarkc76@charter.net
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.The address in the above URL box is one example.
2.Save it to the address bar of Firefox and tap ENTER key.
3.Hope you see the window that says what I entered in the Summary box above.
Actual Results:
Just get the Firefox window that it doesn't know, etc. as stated in the Summary box above.
Expected Results:
Should have brought up a page to enter E-mail addresses of people the article should be forwarded to by the presenter of the article, ZDNet.
It does not crash, it just does not do what it is supposed to do, maybe like Firefox got lost and can't find a way to open the URL that causes a forward to be accomplished about the desired article. I have to copy and paste the article to a WORD DOCUMENT and attach it to an addressed E-mail instead of using the forward feature on the web page.

A quick search through the mozillazine forums gave me this result: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=460893&highlight=mailto+associated&sid=fb7e4860f1da96dfce012e41acc2b279
Hope this helps, as I can't reproduce the described problem.

What does happen if you do windows: start/run and enter "mailto:test" (without the "").
You email application should start with a new message or the problem is your configuration of your email application.
You are reporting about a problem with Firefox launching your external email application but you didn't told us which email application you are using......

When opening the Outlook Express 6 E-Mail, in the INBOX is the ZDNet letter sent to me. Clicking the desired article link on the page opens it. At the end of the article are links, one says E-Mail and that is to open another page for them to forward the article to people I enter the addresses for sending. That does not happen.
I can't tell if you will get the attachment I selected from my F: drive where it indicated ATTACHMENT which is the pasted copy of the web page article page which is on a WORD 2002 Document with my additional comments I made in red print.
When I followed instructions sent to go to START, Run and type in the word mailto without quotes, got the window saying Windows cannot find 'mailto'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, etc. I also did Search on the C: drive for mailto and there were no results. I also went to Internet Options, Program tab and in the E-mail box there was no way to enter anything different than Windows Live Mail. Would not accept typing and the drop down menu said only the same one, no other choice possible like Outlook Express.
