WFM on Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.2) Gecko/2007020823 Firefox/2.0.0.2 The "Launch Update" Applet is loading and running with java version "1.6.0" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0-b105) - no hang also on this applet on vista ultimate. Do you see this hang also with a new firefox profile ?
Yep, the problem is confirmed with a new profile and default Fx installation, also on Vista Ultimate. I also tried it on an admin account as well as by starting Fx with admin rights, no success. The same problem exists with SeaMonkey 1.1.
WFM too using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.2) Gecko/2007020823 Firefox/2.0.0.2. I am running Win Vista Home Basic. I also checked the site on FF 1.5.0.10 and it also runs fine. When I set up my Vista machine I installed the latest version of Java from Sun. Note that there are a number of Win Vista issues noted in the release notes: http://java.sun.com/javase/6/webnotes/index.html#windowsvista. I noticed that the link you point to is an iscroll applet, do you recall if the other sites you hit were using that kind of applet as well?
When Java looked for updates yesterday it wasn't able to any new ones. My build is 1.6.0-oem-b104 (Dell default). I downloaded the latest version manually from Sun and will install it now. Nope, the other applets where no iscroll ones. Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply Marcia and Carsten btw!
by any chance is this a new dell computer? I am noticing reports from users that have dell computers running Vista that we are not seeing on our machines here. Ok, build 1.6.0-b105 is installed and everything works perfectly now!! Not the slightest problems. Yes, it's a two days old aka brand-new Dell computer. So, the problem is the preinstalled build 1.6.0-oem-b104. It might be an idea to contact Sun to push the update or to add an info on the Fx release notes: http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/2.0.0.1/releasenotes/#vista that owners of new Dell computer need to update their Java manually by downloading the latest build themselves. Thanks so much again, Marcia!
I am going to resolve this as WFM, but I have noted this issue on our testing page.
