User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1
Bookkmarks WON’T alphabetize/sort. I go to bookmarks -> manage bookmarks ->
sort -> by anything.
It changes in the manage bookmarks window, but NOT the actual bookmarks.
This makes it worthless.
Clicking on the folder in the bookmarks view and saying to sort by name does nothing also.
Help?
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Bookmarks/Organize Bookmarks
2. Sort by name
3. In the Manage/Organize Bookmarks folder all are sorted correctly.
4. Exit and go to bookmarks.
5. Bookmarks do NOT match bookmarks folder. They remain unsorted.
6. Try a different approach
7. Under bookmarks, click on a folder, Click on "sort by name"
8. Bookmarks dissappear.
9. Click on bookmarks again; they reappear.
10. Click on folder asked to sort by name.
11. There is no change.
Actual Results:
Bookmarks Manager is sorted by name just fine.
Bookmarks on the click menue are NOT alphabetized.
and
Even if clicking "sort by name" in the bookmarks folder there is no sorting.
Expected Results:
Shouuld be alphabetized/sorted.
This seems so basic. I don't understand why there is a problem...?

Works for me with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1
Everything is sorted by name, also in the bookmarks-menu and sidebar if this is what you mean. When you want the contents of a certain folder sorted, you need to open it first and right-click on one of the bookmarks -> Sort By Name.

Ria,
I just wanted to thank you guys for looking into this! Firefox truly is the best. From what you said, I think I got it figured out--I was clicking on the folder and saying "sort by name" and nothing happened. When I click on the first listing in the folder and do this, it does work. My suggestions: take away the option to have a "sort by name" when you just click on the folder. It's confusing! But hey, at least it's not a bug and once you know it you can work with it.
What would also be nice is if you didn't have to do each folder as such individually. Everytime I add a bookmark I have to click "sort by name" in that folder to make it right again. WOuld be nice to have a global way to do this... anyway, a suggestion.
Thank you, again for your answer.

I'm experiencing the same problem. I sort my bookmarks in the "organize bookmarks" windows but when I go to that folder in the bookmarks sidebard or menu it still lists them in the order they were added and NOT the alphabetical order they are listed in the "organize bookmarks" window.

I also found the UI very confusing. Although I did sorted bookmarks if I use the exact method Ria described, some other menu options may not be working as expected.
-If you select a link in the Bookmarks Manager, right click, and select "Sort by Name", the view in the Bookmarks Manager does not change. However, if you go back to your browser and open the Bookmarks menu, everything in the same folder as the link you selected is sorted by name.
-If you use the View menu in the Bookmarks Manager, and select an option such as "Sorted by Name" or "Sorted by Keyword", the entries in the Organize Bookmarks Window are sorted. However, when you go back to your browser Bookmarks menu, the order is still unsorted. If aged memory serves, this menu option used to work the way the original poster expected (e.g. if the order in the Organize Bookmarks Window is resorted, the order in the Bookmarks menu is also resorted.). I can't think why a feature would be designed to sort the two differently, and several users have posted thinking this is a bug. So, perhaps it is.
-Bug 415803 and 413140 may be duplicates of this bug.
-I am using version 2.0.0.13 on Windows XP.
