User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.13) Gecko/20060414 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.9a3pre) Gecko/20070222 SeaMonkey/1.5a The new junk mail icon needs a review. The old one was better, caused less confusion about its meanng. Especially th small one used in the table header of the list view of the emails is very bad. You first have to hover to see the tooltip to get an idea, what the meaning is. This is not good. The old recycling symbol was better, because it makes the user feel that this has something to do with waste. Also the coloring of the wto icons was better in the old implementation, because both where using the blue color with the cycling arrows. Reproducible: Always
Left is Thunderbird 3.0, middle is new SeaMonkey, right is old SeaMonkey I think beauty and evident would be a modified icon pair created from the Thunderbird icons by making the cycling arrows blue in both the large icon and the small icon.
Attached image Icon suggestion draft
This is a quick an dirty recoloring of the Thunderbird icons. The owner of the originals might redraw them in this way a little bit more beautiful than I did for this suggestion. This is more nice than the old Mozilla / SeaMonkey icons but as evident as the old ones. The new icon pair of SeaMonkey is not evident and the relation between the two icons is hard to detect. In my suggestion the relation is easy to detect, because both icons (the large button and the small table header icon) have the blue cycling arrows.

(In reply to comment #3) > Stefan, It this for bug 460699, or close? Nothing I planned, Georg should probably request review/input from KaiRo/Neil.
Where should I do that? Should I request in news://news.mozilla.org:119/mozilla.dev.apps.seamonkey ? Or should I set KaiRo to CC here?
The normal procedure for getting review is to set the review flag on the attachment (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=256268&action=edit and fill in the requestee's e-mail). If you just attach a patch/icon and not do anything it's quite likely that it won't get any attention (it'll get lost in the flood of bugspam). That is, since this is a draft and not the final version, it's probably a good idea to get input first. Possibly by CC:ing KaiRo or maybe poke people on irc.
You could post in mozilla.dev.apps.seamonkey too

Comment on attachment 256268 [details] Icon suggestion draft I can't imagine this icon fitting alongside our other icons. (Perhaps it might be possible to inscribe the chasing arrows in white on the existing image?)

The small icon has not very much room for the arrows. The arrows are the important part of the icon, which should be visible on both the small and the large icon.
IMHO, the arrows are a misleading metaphor and should never be there, as they mean "recycling", we are are killing junk, not recycling it. The overfilled trashcan is IMHO a better metaphor there.
No, we do not kill junk, we filter it out. The user then decides which so called junk to delete and with so called junk to hold as not junk. So it is not the same as the trashcan, it is a separate container used for stuff that needs to be sorted into stuff to be thrown into the trashcan and other stuff, which is suspicious to be spam but is not spam. So the recycling metaphor represents a workflow which starts exactly with the same steps as are to be done by the user for this spam stuff. And in the mind of most users recycling and trash is nearby the same but little bit different. So I think the recycling metaphor is still a good metaphor. Even mail from Apple uses the recycling metaphor on a bag filled with advertisements.
This icon is probably copyrighted by Apple Computer Inc., so we must not use it, but it might give us some inspiration.

Comment on attachment 256268 [details] Icon suggestion draft r- in any case as those icons are neither in the formats needed nor do they fit in with the other default theme icons.
