The Firefox help site has a menu reference page, but the Thunderbird help site doesn't. I've been working on a Thunderbird menu reference page, to be pushed when Thunderbird 2 is released. The HTML file itself, is already in the web-tree (it's the Firefox 1 menu reference). I'll commit the Thunderbird version, when I have a draft ready for review.

First draft is up at <http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/menu>. Most of the content is taken from <http://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Help_Documentation:Menu_Reference>; but the wiki page is missing many newsgroup items, has unfilled definitions, and is out of date. Given what I've added vs. what is on the wiki page, there are probably some consistency issues, spelling issues, grammar issues, and menu items in different spots on non-windows operating systems.

(In reply to comment #2) > I just noticed I didn't define Move/Copy Again. > http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/menu#messagemovecopyagain Ditto with the error console. I really don't know how to define what the error console does in Thunderbird.
I am sure there is a log function in the code set up just to log messages to this console. Find that and one will find the things that get logged there. I imaging SMTP and NNTP error messages are on the list. Also, I wanted to mention that it would be good to be able to specify when a menu item in enabled and what the menu item does when certain things in the UI are selected. I am not sure of the best way to describe this enabled-ness and the differing behaviors, but I will try something.

The Error Console shows errors/warnings when something goes wrong in extensions or the Thunderbird UI code. (SMTP, POP etc. logs have to be created using http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html#imap) The Error Console also shows CSS problems in feed pages.

I've updated the page, with these updates: - file>new>folder only appears for email/RSS - file>new>savedsearch links to a page about saved searches and only appears for email/RSS - file>new>account links to tutorial about creating an account - file>open saved message only does EML files - file>attachments>detach and delete all only apply to email - file>saveas get rid of 'MS'. - file>get all new messages is only for email and RSS - file>send unsent messages redone to say sent messages in the *Unsent folder* - compact mail folders is rewritten, to actually explain what it does - delete folder only appears for mail and RSS, when a folder pane is selected - delete message only appears for mail and RSS when a message is selected - find in this message is now a find bar, and buttons have appropriate styles - favorite folder should state the whole view menu path - add preferences to Edit menu - toolbar customize has menu style on "Customize" in description - view>Folders has a description - view>textsize links to keyboard shortcuts page - go>next etc. selects next message in the current folder *or newsgroup*. - go>mailstartpage should say message pane, not view pane - reply to newsgroup uses better wording than "click on this" - message>move is only available for email and RSS accounts - Move/Copy message has a description: Move or Copy the currently selected message to the same location you last moved or copied a message to. - message>mark>addstar had star spelled as start - error console had a bad anchor name - error console has a description: The Error Console shows errors/warnings when something goes wrong in extensions or the Thunderbird UI code, and also shows CSS problems in feed pages. - help>ThunderbirdHelp opens web site not web page Anyone know how recently a folder has to have been viewed, in order for it to appear in recent folders view? Other than that, I would consider the page to be ready. When Tb2 is released, I'll add the Menu Reference item to the navigation menu on all other pages in the Thunderbird Help site, and mark this bug as fixed.

Where is the "Thunderbird" menu, in the series? Is it before or after "File"? We'll need to change this on the Firefox pages as well.

'Thunderbird' is first - in MacOSX, the app name menu is always first

I noticed the screenshot has an item "About Mail/News Client". Does "About Mozilla Thunderbird" still appear in the Help menu on Mac? Right now, I think I'll just mention Thunderbird-->Preferences for Mac in the descriptions, rather than create another listing.

The "About Mozilla Thunderbird" appears on the Mac as the top menu item of the "Thunderbird" menu, the first one on the left. The "Help" menu has the menu items: "Mozilla Thunderbird Help", "Release Notes", "------", "Check for Updates...".

sorry, I'm running a custom build due to an imap server bug I have to work around, so my application is named 'Mail/News' instead of Thunderbird - only official builds can be named Thunderbird. You can use them interchangeably for this purpose, though.
