Putting the google and ask.com search toolbar onto the same field will cause one to be squashed and the other not in an arbitrary manner. And putting either on the bookmark field will give one of the other an arbitrary and ridiculously small length.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Put various search toolbars on the fields together or bookmark toolbar.
Actual Results:
The search toolbars are arbitrary lengths and one or more are squashed.

Expected Results:
To be able to have the search toolbars lengthened to the desired length on the fly or at least of equal lengths which are not absurdly small.

In IE 6 I recall being able to length and shorten fields to my liking, I may be thinking of netcaptor, I'm not sure.
The other search toolbars will be sized based on whatever the extension author chose for their flexibility, if they are particularly small or large then complaining to the extension author would be the way. That side of this bug is invalid.

For the search toolbar there are plans to make it resizable which would resolve that side of your issue.
