The Product field of this bug is wrong, Firefox (as your user-agent says) is not Mozilla Application Suite.

Can somebody of developers comment on this? Is this intended or bug? And what state of it in latest trunk.

We're not actively working on LDAP autoconfig but patches are welcome. It looks like the code was written w/o binary attributes in mind, since it stores the results in strings, but I'm not an LDAP expert.
