Between the March 4th and March 5th nightly builds, font size scaling in SVG <foreignObject>s was broken. (Likely due to bug 370588)
Applying a transform scale to text in affected builds results in proper character spacing, but unscaled character size. (See the attached URL for a very simple testcase with an html:button.) The same behavior is seen with html:div and xul:button. Correct behavior is seen in prior builds.
This bug affects Mac and Windows builds, but Linux builds are unaffected.

Probably a dup of bug 372838.

I tested this myself on a Mac, and the text is scaled properly. Thus, this bug appears to be Windows specific. (attached is an image of the correct behavior on an April 10th build)

Reporter: can you test in a recent nightly, since bug 372838 was fixed?

The text scaling is done correctly in the latest trunk build on win32, so this bug is fixed. The character position is still off in Windows, however. For example, the two t's in "button" are too close together. Compare the Windows screenshots to the Mac screenshot.
Also, the character spacing changes when the position of the text changes. This can be easily seen by clicking the button, changing it to active. This changes the padding on the button, shifting the text position right. Notice that the "b" and "u" in "button" get closer together, while the "M" and "L" in "HTML" get further apart.

I'll take roc's word for it, since it's fixed now.
