When a user is running an old version of Camino, we change the text on the main page to tell them to upgrade. Changing the text isn't enough though. We need to add a warning icon and maybe some other graphics/color change to make that notice more prominent.

The text/html for the center div is in inc/messages.inc.php. It's messy, but there's code for a bunch of releases in there. Only some of them would get it, obviously.
Would it be too tacky to use the red box we use on /start/ ? If not, can we find a way to make implementing that less messy (e.g., have it "on" by default, perhaps by a class, and then opt-out current/nightly/safari/firefox)?

Yeah, it would be. But I agree we need to make it less messy. I think that should be part of the re-work you mapped out.

Bump!
I was playing with segmentation on analytics tonight, and of the Camino 1.5.x hits, 50% are to the front page, and 30% are to download 1.6.9. Those numbers should be a lot closer, if not reversed :)
I couldn't remember what we did now, so I visited with 1.5.4, and almost thought we didn't have anything. We really need a big scary bar right at the top of the page.
Also, besides the front page, the next two most visited pages for 1.5 users are contact/ and help/; both should definitely have big banners too, since:
a) anyone with a problem should be the first to update, and
b) both are directly accessible from the app, without visiting the main page.
This is even worse on the 2.0 site than it was on the 1.5/1.6 site (the message may be below the fold, and it's certainly not a focal element), and the Home redesign was going to replace that column, anyway. Not sure where this ended up in the final Home designs.

Yeah, this is much worse now. We should think about how to make the call out larger. Even just changing the font color would be an improvement. Maybe a dark red for the header?

That's pretty easy to play with, and sounds reasonable.
Do we want this on all messages except current release/current nightly/other browser, or do we want this only for old nightly, old release current series, old release old series (1.0.x<6, 1.6.x<11)?
(The difference between those sets is the "You're running 1.0.6/1.6.11; if you're running 10.4, run 2.0" messages.)
(Obviously we wouldn't use it on current preview, either.)

I think we want this on all messages except current release/nightly/preview and other browser. We don't have many people on those old versions... certainly not enough to worry about.

Given the current state of the Camino project, we won't be fixing these website bugs. Mass changing our Product Site bugs (search on "camino-website-bugs").
