see the bug URL for a mockup.

* becomes visible as user starts typing
* options for titles, tags, text, notes (, uri?)
* need to figure out what the default selected are
* need to play with it, see if we should use checkboxes as in the mockup, multiselect or scrolly list of checkboxes?
* if there are results, shows a "save" button

alex, can you explain what you intended the "plus" button in the mockup to do?

I think we should de-emphasize search in the bookmarks sidebar because we are allowing users to directly search against bookmarks in the location bar, and overall this is more useful.

The search field is shown by default.  The buttons "Save Search" and "Advanced Search" only appear if the user has entered text.

User clicks the search icon next to the close button

"Advanced" loads the search in the bookmarks manager

"Save Search"  loads a dialog similar to the current dialog used to create a new bookmark

A couple of minor tweaks:
-Ability to switch to the history sidebar with dropdown
-changed appearance of the search button being pushed in

I think the drop-down should be labeled "Places", with the History and Bookmarks choices below. Having Bookmarks in the Bookmarks drop-down seems redundant.

Also, I still like what I took to be the/a original Places idea that the place is the basic unit, and bookmarks vs history is just a difference in display and manipulation methods. This seems like a good spot to re-emphasize the concept.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body   contains   places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
