Patch v2 for MOZILLA_1_8_BRANCH
Giving r+ to this patch, but it doesn't apply correctly on trunk. Had to make some slight modifications to apply the patch, and will attach that here before checking into the tree.

Fix checked in on both branch and trunk
Checked in the V2 trunk and V2 branch patch. Decided against using the one I created in comment 5 because it changed some extra lines.
