This patch ports the application specific changes from bug 362241 attachment 250973 [details] [diff] [review]. Note: I didn't test it myself, just copied the TB patch.

Autocompact-after-delete seems to work only once after startup, but that's not in the scope of this bug. Landed on trunk.
