Maybe this is a problem on windows only, I don't know.
See zipped testcase, unzip it and run window_open.xul from chrome.
Click on the button to open the window which has hidechrome="true", you still see the titlebar cruft, which you shouldn't see.
Minimizing and refocusing the window again fixes it.

I can still reproduce in Gecko/20100601 Minefield/3.7a5pre on Windows 7, auto-sizing makes dialogs with hidechrome="true" too large. This affects Songbird on Windows.
