This message comes up when I am turning the computer on. The last session was closed down normally with no problem.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Is this really resolved? I don't think this is a duplicate of 333907. My similar experience involves Windows XP and FireFox revision 1.8.1.6. 

What has happened with my setup is: I also turn off XP; all running software stops except those with edits; for example, Notepad, with new text, asks me if I want to save it - I get a choice. Continuing the example, if there's only old text, Notepad closes without further notices. 

Contrast that with Firefox. FireFox stops without complaint - I was not prompted  if I wanted to save the sessions. After rebooting, when I start FireFox, it asks me if I want to restore a lost session. But the session wasn't lost - I closed it, indirectly, through Windows, by rebooting. 

My work-around, not available to the average user, is to access options via about:config, and change browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash, against the default, to false.

I will re-install FireFox binaries again in a clean directory to replicate the behavior.

This is resolved for Firefox 3.0 (except for bug 391940). Whether the same fix will ever be applied to Firefox 2.0 is still open for debate and tracked by bug 333907.

I find it difficult to verify that, indeed, the issue is resolved for Firefox 3.0, because the binary of FF 3 I downloaded and installed was not at a level of operation adequate to test that particular issue. For example, it wouldn't bring up my (multiple) set of home pages, neither on starting, nor when pressing the home button. In addition, after I closed it normally,  it continued to ask me if I wanted to restore the abnormally ended session from before. When I asked it to restore the what it was calling an abnormally ended session, it brought up a blank page. Then, even if I closed it normally, when I started it again, it again asked if I wanted to restore the abnormally ended session or start a new one.

However, Firefox 2.0 operates nominally, and, with the work-around I mentioned above, seems to handle the issue, albeit, without restoring really lost sessions.

In any case I need to re-install version 3, because I realize that it borrowed my old version 2 settings. I have to make sure to make a clean install.
