Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Open long discussion from any newsgroup. Expected Results: more beatyfull view :-)

The problem can be really annoying, so confirming as valid enhancement request. But I'm not sure if you're idea would be a good solution, especially for widely ramified threads. Can you do a graphical mockup, how this would look (e.g. for the "Going live with new start page?" thread in mozilla.dev.apps.seamonkey on news.mozilla.org)?

Thread will appear as arrow with current message on edge. Currently each message has some offset based on "message level". Offset started (and grow) from first message a tread. Named this offset canonical. For "arrow view" each message will have "current" offset, recalculated as: abs(canonical_offset - canonical_offset_current_message)
