User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070802 SeaMonkey/1.1.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070802 SeaMonkey/1.1.4 I hope this is the right place to be. If it isn't please accept my apologies and direct me to a better place. The last couple of releases, I've had this problem with the seamonkey browser. Usually it happens when reading gmail or the forum at broadbandreports.com although I've gone for weeks sometimes without it happening. Also it has happened on a number of other sites including slashdot and cnn. Unfortunately I can't see to figure out any commonality or cause. What happens is that I'll click on a link and the page will look like it starts to load. Then instead of loading into that window, it pops up another window and loads the page in that. The first window will look blank and only the Navigation Toolbar will function. The other toolbars, you can click on but nothing happens. The 2nd window will just have the title bar with the minimize, maximize, and close buttons. The 2nd window won't have any toolbars or even the scroll bar. Clicking the close button on the 2nd window will kill all seamonkey browser windows not just the 2nd window. 99% of the time, If I click reload in the first window, the 2nd window will close and the page will load into the 1st window as it should have done the first time. The remaining 1% of the time, the only solution is to kill seamonkey and start over. The page will load fine after restarting. My current version of seamonkey is SeaMonkey 1.1.4. I've also seen this problem in 1.1.2. I use to use the "Mozilla Application Suite" but never saw this problem until I switched over to Seamonkey. My OS is RHEL 5. Is this enough information? Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: Unfortunately I can't come up with any steps to reproduce it. Just use the browser and click on a link. Some small random % of the time you'll get this problem Actual Results: The strange 2nd window appears Expected Results: The page to load in the current window about:buildconfig Build platform target i686-pc-linux-gnu Build tools Compiler Version Compiler flags gcc gcc version 3.3.1 (SuSE Linux) -Wall -W -Wno-unused -Wpointer-arith -Wcast-align -Wno-long-long -pedantic -pthread -pipe c++ gcc version 3.3.1 (SuSE Linux) -fno-rtti -fno-exceptions -Wall -Wconversion -Wpointer-arith -Wcast-align -Woverloaded-virtual -Wsynth -Wno-ctor-dtor-privacy -Wno-non-virtual-dtor -Wno-long-long -pedantic -fshort-wchar -pthread -pipe -I/usr/X11R6/include Configure arguments --enable-application=suite --disable-tests --enable-extensions=default --without-system-nspr --without-system-jpeg --without-system-zlib --without-system-png --disable-debug '--enable-optimize=-O2 -gstabs+' --enable-crypto --disable-elf-dynstr-gc --enable-strip --enable-default-toolkit=gtk2 --enable-xft --disable-freetype2 --disable-xprint --enable-svg --enable-svg-renderer-cairo --enable-canvas
I just encountered this problem too. I'm on F7 using KDE. The website was melodramatic.com. The weird window appeared with the google ads in it, while the rest of the page seemed to load in the main window. However the main window wouldn't do anything but reload. The window appeared in the panel to have the generic "X-windows" icon instead of the seamonkey icon. I clicked the X in the title bar to close it and all 3 of my seamonkey windows closed!
AFAICT, this is the same problem of my bug 349497 which was duped to bug 263160.
