Hi, this is with: 2000-05-21-20 and A4/Color/Margins 0,50 inch Problems: All umlauts are miss-alinged in the <p> (stylesheet says it must be justified.) In the left-aligned header <h2> this doesn't occure. The problem is usually that the ä becomes "ä " instead of "ä" (But once the Üb overlap). Additionally is the space after the comma too wide. I understand that the spacing might be bad using justified text, but this spacing creates an other problem: In two lines a letter ("mi(t)" and "geforsch(t)") is missing. Not directly related to the umlauts a <strong><a> text followed by a default text also renders wrong the "Physik" and "(fsi@" overlap. I consider it as a known problem that the headlines <h*> are printed in serif instead of sans serif. See http://www.physik.fu-berlin.de/~fsi/lehre.ps for the result I get with. (I viewed it using GV with the urw+ fonts)

This bug has been marked future because we have determined that it is not critical for netscape 6.0. If you feel this is an error, or if it blocks your work in some way -- please attach your concern to the bug for reconsideration.

This causes that the printout looks awful. It hinders the readability a lot and looks `stupid'. I know that this only affects justified text, but this is increasingly wider used, since newspaper copy their layout to the web. As a work-around you may choose to disable justify completely (for print-out), this would be better than the present situation.

There are worse aspects of this bug than the Summary says. See attachments. Bug #1: 33% of iso8859-1's non-ASCII characters OVERWRITE parts of the following character, while 40% get too much space to the right. (The rest of the character set (including the ASCII part) gets ugly spacing, though not exactly buggy -- except comma and "lone umlaut"'s extreme spacing.) Note how the strings that justification throws to the right, are left-aligned with the right-justified lines. This indicates that you calcuate the size of the string correctly, but mess up the placement of characters within it. Bug #2: The "Foo," line shows why comma should not have wide right-padding: It's wrong inside quotes. Instead, widen any following whitespace character. Bug #3: However, "lone" lines like that one (or the last line in a paragraph) shouldn't get justified anyway; they should look left-aligned. (The output was produced on Sun-Solaris with Mozilla Build ID 2000072421.)

Suggest keywords: mozilla0.9, if possible mozilla0.6 and rtm. This makes printing almost completely unusable under UNIX. Moreover there should be relnoteRTM if this cannot be fixed since this can be very surprising if you suddenly start to print hundreds of pages!

Tobias: The URL http://www.physik.fu-berlin.de/~fsi/lehre.ps isn't valid anymore ? Wanna attach that file to this bug, please ? I am going to attach a PS file printed via Xprint module - Tobias: Do you see any problems in this file ?

Much nicer! The bugs I reported are gone. (I'm the one who made the HTML attachment which you printed to that PostScript attachment.) One probably unrelated problem: The lines are truncated at the right. ..."showattachmen(1/2 t)", ..."nòn÷", ..."nõn(1/2 ø)" and so on, and the "(justify)"s below the "(left)"s are gone. (BTW, I do wonder why you output justified lines character by character instead of just positioning each chunk of characters that have no space between them. That also gives a 60% file size reduction in this case.)

Hallvard B Furuseth: Please note that the output (http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/showattachment.cgi?attach_id=38069) is from Mozilla's Xprint module - native PostSCript module may still suffer from this issue !!! Xprint does not print itself - it uses the X11 protocol to render on a X print server (Xprt) which generates the resulting output file (various formats: PS/PDF/PCL/XWD etc.)... > One probably unrelated problem: The lines are truncated at the right. > ..."showattachmen(1/2 t)", ..."nòn÷", ..."nõn(1/2 ø)" and so on, and > the "(justify)"s below the "(left)"s are gone. I know. Something with the visible page width calculation is wrong. I really wish that dcone would give me one or two hints what may cause this problem... ;-( > (BTW, I do wonder why you output justified lines character by character > instead of just positioning each chunk of characters that have no space > between them. That also gives a 60% file size reduction in this case.) Could you please create a test case for this ? I'll open a new bug for this as this may be Xprint-module specific...
