401639 - Thunderbird hangs on startup when loading network (remote) .ics ical calendars

When starting thunderbird it loads the mailboxes, starts loading calendars, but then hangs until the calendars are loaded.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create one or mltiple .ics calendar(s) with about 500K of data on a server running webdav.
2. Add the calendars
3. Restart thunderbird
Actual Results:  
Hanging Thunderbird until calendars are loaded.

Expected Results:  
A not hanging Thunderbird, so you can read your mail until the calendars are loaded

Running windows tried Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 with Lightning 0.5 and 0.7 both have the same issue.
Running Debian Lenny and Ubuntu 7.10 tried 2.0.0.6 and 2.0.0.7? with lightning 0.5 but the same problem occurs.

I have not had time to inspect the code, but i think that putting the 'ical loading mechanism' in a thread would do the job.
