User-Agent:       Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.9) Gecko/20071025 Firefox/2.0.0.9
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.9) Gecko/20071025 Firefox/2.0.0.9

I searched BugZilla and Google'd for a way to fix "chrome registration" failure. It didn't just happen with Google Tool Bar; it also happened with trying to download a plug-in from ABC.com to watch TV episodes. I found nothing on BugZilla and a couple of questions similar to mine on a blog.

I did end up finding a solution on a blog, given by a user who had the same "no answers on Mozilla or Microsoft (Vista)" as I did. The solution, for her, was to RIGHT CLICK ON MOZILLA FIREFOX ICON, RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. POOF!! The problem was gone. I would like it if BugZilla or Mozilla could please post a SAFE fix to this problem.

Thank you very much.

Lori Kirby

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Mozilla Firefox (you must be using Microsoft Vista [I have Home version]}
2. Go to "download Google Tool Bar" page
3. The "chrome registration message should pop up.
Actual Results:
I got an error message saying this couldn't be installed because there was a chrome registration failure.

Expected Results:
Install the plug-in's.

I think this is a MS Windows Vista problem along with an error in coding by the Mozilla development team.
over to extension / theme manager.
Component: Installer → Extension/Theme Manager
QA Contact: installer → extension.manager
I was unable to reproduce. Can you please confirm this occurs using the following url?
http://tools.google.com/tools/firefox/toolbar/FT3/intl/en/install.html

If it still occurs can you try opening your profile's extensions directory and check if there is already a directory named
{3112ca9c-de6d-4884-a869-9855de68056c}

Info on how to find your profile's extensions directory
http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile#locate

If that directory is present open it, right click inside the directory, and select New -> Text Document. This will verify that you have write access to the directory which is required for chrome registration.
