I think we need to make it clearer to visitors, that the Firefox Support site is in beta. Especially if we are getting traffic via Google searches. It would help if the "Support Help and Tutorials" banner could say Beta. The "Search Firefox Support:" search box should also say "Search Firefox Support Beta:"
<http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Installing+Firefox+on+Linux?page=Installing+Firefox+on+Linux&comments_parentId=1140&comments_per_page=1&thread_style=commentStyle_threaded> "It took some effort to find this article. The web page for downloading firefox should have a link to how to install it once the file is downloaded." Mozilla is getting a bad rep, because people aren't aware the site is beta.
djst, this sounds like a decision marketing has to approve?
I'm not sure if we need this anymore. The idea was to have the word "Beta" on the start page to let people know that it's a work in progress, and then remove it as we finish milestone 0.4. That's just a couple of weeks from now today, so I'm contemplating WONTFIX'ing this. I think a better approach would be to add a contributor box on the start page, or somehow make it more apparent that the content is written by the Firefox community. It's a more long-term way of saying the same thing: "We need your help!"
amo was in beta for a long while. I think it wouldn't hurt to have it on for the first little bit that we really go public. I don't think the state we're at with the code etc is really near final although it's good enough to use. We can always take it off after a month or two if it turns out everything's good, but we really haven't hit a point where we've had real user testing at all.
Since this didn't happen before launch, it would seem kind of strange to do it now retrospectively.
