The "backspace" key could be implemented in two possible ways: Either closing the current individual mail window like <ALT> <F4> does. or closing the current individual mail window and opening up the main mail overview if there is no current main mail overview. We already have <ESC> that closes the window, at least on Linux. My 2 cents: overloading a "destructive" key like <backspace> with other meanings is bad.
