Details
Seen while testing Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9b1) Gecko/2007110903 Firefox/3.0b1. STR: 1. Using a clean profile, use the customize toolbar command to add the "New Window" icon the toolbar. I placed it directly to the right of the location bar. 2. Before doing any other operation, click on the New Window icon to launch a new window. Immediately close that window. 3. Change focus back to the main window and open a new tab. Try to type a URL in the location bar. Expected: I can type a URL Actual: I can't type anything in the URL bar. ALso tested with the report a broken website.

This seems to only happen to the new tab that I open. If I navigate back to an existing tab that is already open, I am able to type in the location bar or erase what is already there. Also, if I change focus back to the tab I couldn't type in, I am then able to type in the URL bar.

Marcia, I'm always looking for reproducible focus bugs on the trunk, so I'd really like to get this to work. But I can't ... possibly because I've misunderstood one or more of your steps. From step 2 -- "Immediately close that window" How did you close it? With the mouse? Using Command-w? From step 3 -- "Change focus back to the main window". As far as I can tell this step isn't necessary. Why was it necessary in your case? Exactly how did you do it?

Steven: I was testing on a PPC mac running Leopard when I hit this, and I was able to repro it every time. I apologize for not having better STR - in the future I will make sure for these types of bugs to include every operation that I perform. I will go through my steps tomorrow and report back. If I remember correctly, I closed the new window by clicking the "X" in this case. And you are right, I did not have to switch focus back to the main window, after I closed the new window I opened I was back in my original window. Then I opened a new tab and tried to type something into the URL bar, and nothing happened. I was able to repeat this with several other icons as well.

Can someone with PPC try to reproduce this in contemporary builds?

I tried reproducing this using Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1b4pre) Gecko/20090415 Shiretoko/3.5b4pre and was not able to using the original STR. So for now I will resolve this as WFM.
