Our <http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Installing+Firefox+on+Windows> article does not cover custom install options. We should either add a section to that article, or document it in a separate article.
I just created a MozillaZine KB article that documents a custom Firefox install on Windows, with screenshots:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installing_Firefox_on_Windows
P.S. I posted the above URL because I thought it might be helpful to anyone who wants to add a new article (or a section of the existing article) covering custom install options. I don't want this article assigned to me.

Note to self that http://support.mozilla.com/kb/DOM+Inspector should be updated to link to this article once it's finished.
Done: <http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Custom+installation+of+Firefox>, <http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Custom+installation+of+Firefox+on+Windows>.

One important point: I assumed that there are advanced setup options equivalent to Windows' "custom" setup on both Mac and Linux. If that's not the case, we need to modify the structure of the work I did on this page: <http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Custom+installation+of+Firefox>.

I need help on <http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-editpage.php?page=Custom+installation+of+Firefox+on+Mac> and <http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-editpage.php?page=Custom+installation+of+Firefox+on+Linux>...

I'm leaving this as ASSIGNED because the work has not finished yet.
There's no installer on Linux like there is on Windows. Either you install it by package management or you install it just by unpacking a file.

On Mac, you just drag the downloaded file somewhere and it gets installed without an installer.
I don't know about this one. Obviously, this bug only applies to Windows versions. The question is do we add it to the existing article? If it's a separate article, should the separate article go through the entire install process?
The download time on Installing Firefox on Windows is bad enough, but adding four more screenshots is going to make it much worse. On the other hand, creating a separate article that outlines the entire process gives us the same problem. I'm more inclined to have an article that just outlines the custom options and nothing else; but I don't know if that's user-friendly in terms of navigation.

Hmmm, so how does one for example select DOM Inspector to be installed then?

Should I wait for more feedback before changing this article?

On Linux, if you installed via package manager, you can install DOM Inspector via package manager as well. For outside of the package manager, it's always included.

Not sure about Mac.

Same as talkback: it's part of the app. Every Mac Firefox user has DOMi.

Yeah, lets get some input from others on how to do it.

I agree with this. Link to the "Custom install options" article from the main Windows install article. The article will go through the remaining steps of the install.
Okay lets do that.
The DOM Inspector article should link to the custom install options too (just posting this as a reminder to myself or whoever does that update).
This has waited *long* enough in my queue, I guess...

<http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Custom+installation+of+Firefox> should be removed from the Wiki, but I can't figure out how to do that.

I have updated <http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Custom+installation+of+Firefox+on+Windows> to address comment 13.
Summary: Document custom install options → Document custom install options on Windows
I've removed Custom+installation+of+Firefox.

Some notes:
- I don't think we need the note at the beginning. I think a revised version of that should be the intro. Something like:
"While you go through the instructions on ((Installing Firefox on Windows|how to install Firefox on Windows)), you may decide to choose the Custom installation type."

- list the optional components:
* __DOM Inspector__: description. For more information see ((DOM Inspector)).
* __Quality Feedback Agent__: description. For more information see ((Quality Feedback Agent)).

- same as above for Set Up Shortcuts step

While updating <http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Installing+Firefox+on+Windows> for Firefox 3, I also took screenshots of custom install windows. I'm sick of seeing those image files on my desktop, so I've updated the article myself. :-)

I've updated the article for Firefox 3, but would like someone to have a look at it, before moving to the KB.
