User-Agent:       Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b1) Gecko/2007110904 Firefox/3.0b1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b1) Gecko/2007110904 Firefox/3.0b1

The search engine icon occasionally disappears. This confused me for a long time, but I think I've finally found the cause.

When the pop up for the 'star' on the address bar appears for the first time, the search icon disappears.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Restart FF
2. Click on the star icon twice (may need to pause in between, I'm not sure)
Actual Results:
The search engine icon disappears (screen shot to come)

This sounds like the same issue as bug 353069, but caused by a different popup.
I can reproduce this 100% with my usual profile but 0% of the time with totally fresh profile.It really needs to be a fresh load with an "old profile".

Is there a meta bug for disappearing search icon ? I seem to get it often. Not only with this one.

I this a dupe of bug 353069 ?

Lankow or Chadwick, can you reproduce this bug with the release candidate? If not, please change the resolution to WORKSFORME.
Can see with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; fr; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008051206 Firefox/3.0 ID:2008051206

I can still see this bug with my FF2-era profile, but not with a newer one.
I believe that this may be caused by an RDF:Description element in localStore.rdf containing a bad pointer to "google.gif" (or some other file).

If you are experiencing this, try searching for "google.gif" in localStore.rdf, and delete the corresponding RDF:Description element.

For me this issue went away after I deleted the following from localStore.rdf:

<RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#searchbar"
searchengine="engine://C%3A%5CProgram%20Files%5CMozilla%20Firefox%5Csearchplugins%5Cgoogle.src"
src="file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/searchplugins/google.gif" />

Note that my current Firefox installation is located in "Mozilla Firefox 3.5". The folder "Mozilla Firefox" originally contained Firefox 1.0, but no longer exists, thus the above path is to a nonexistent .gif file.

Are .src files even used anymore? Was the format for search plugins not changed to .xml?
